PROJECTS
What will we do in Colombia?
In Colombia, our Art of Diplomacy delegation will travel to Bogotá and Medellín to meet with a wide range of Colombian artists, academics, journalists, entrepreneurs, and diplomats to learn what makes Colombia a special and strategic country in South America. This well-rounded trip will cover policy and politics in the capital city of Bogotá and business, art, and culture in the innovative city of Medellín. We will meet American diplomats at the US Embassy and Colombian officials at the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (requested). Together, we will learn why Colombia is important to the United States and US foreign policy in Latin America.
In Bogotá, we will experience the historic charm of La Candelaria district, visit the iconic Botero Museum, and then ascend Monserrate Mountain via cable car. In Medellín, we will explore El Poblado. Lined with green parks, modern condo and hotel buildings adorning greenery, trendy shops, art, and more, the neighborhood of El Poblado is both enjoyable to walk through and incredibly significant as an economic center. Outside the cities, we will visit a flower association and a coffee farm to learn about these two important sectors to the Colombian economy.
Who is this trip for?
This trip is for folks who want to travel to Colombia with regional experts and gain exposure to Colombian politics, business, and culture. Our group will be small by design, and the carefully curated agenda allows time to see many of the popular sites in both cities, experience Colombian food and music, exchange views with the Colombian people, and have fun!
What do we do in Cuba?
In Cuba, our Art of Diplomacy delegation meets with Cuban business owners, entrepreneurs, artists, and musicians in the small but tenacious private sector.
During our recent trips, we met with Cuban officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and enjoyed a lovely reception with U.S. diplomats at the U.S. Embassy in Havana. In our five days in Havana, we participated in wide-ranging discussions about U.S.-Cuban relations, the failures of the Cuban economic and political model, issues related to the long-standing U.S. embargo, impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, migration, human rights, censorship, economic shortages, and more.
We stayed in beautiful, privately-owned boutique hotels in the Vedado neighborhood, traveled around Havana in 1950s classic cars with drivers, and ate in privately-owned restaurants known as "paladares." We enjoyed a walking tour of Old Havana, learned about Afro-Cuban culture and music, experienced Cuban cigars, practiced our salsa dancing, and some of us even went to a baseball game!
Who is this trip for?
This trip is great for working professionals, philanthropists, policy advocates, academics, students, and retirees alike. The Cuba experience with Art of Diplomacy Tours is perfect for policy-minded individuals who want to engage with the Cuban people and learn about Cuban culture and the arts, U.S.-Cuba relations and history, as well as healthcare, education, religion, trade, and the private sector in Cuba. The groups are small, and the agenda can be tailored to meet the interests of our travelers. Participants also have the opportunity to bring donations of school supplies and over-the-counter medicines to support the Cuban people.
